Chapter Fourteen - Heath

“Man, you really have it bad for her, don't you?” Brian nudged me in the side with his elbow.

“I don't know what it is about her, I just can't help myself,” I laughed back at his teasing.

“The Universe certainly knew what it was doing when it mated the two of you,” Brian wiggled his eyebrows suggestively at me.

“That part was certainly an added bonus,” I chuckled, my groin tightening at the very thought of being with her like that again.

“You are so lucky to have found a mate like her,” Clay said wistfully.

I knew Clay liked her, but now, seeing them interact together, and his reaction to our mating, something told me it was much deeper than just liking. “Hey, Clay,” I fell back next to him as we made our way back to the village, “You okay with all of this?”

“Yeah. No. I mean, I just really liked her. Now, being mated to you, I have no chance and have to sit by while she is put in danger,” he admitted.

“Mated to me doesn't mean that you have no chance with her, Clay. You know how things work with our people,” I told him.

“She's different though, she's a human. She might not be okay with having more than one mate,” he shook his head.

“But she might,” I countered. “There's no way of knowing unless you give her the chance.”

“So, everyone keeps saying,” he mumbled under his breath.

“There's a reason for that,” I nudged him. “Look, you are an amazing person, and any woman, even Lillie, would be more than lucky to have you as a mate.”

“You wouldn't mind?” Clay looked at me, hope in his eyes.

“Of course not,” I slapped his back, making him stumble forward a step. I let out a small laugh, between my strength, and his clumsiness, you would think I would learn by now. “Sorry about that. You are my brother, and if it is what Lillie chooses, I would be more than honored to share her as a mate with you.”

“Yeah, okay. Thanks. I guess, I will consider talking to her,” Clay flushed, clearly a little embarrassed about the way things were going. “I think she is great for you. I like seeing how happy you are around her,” he added, before moving in front of me as the trail narrowed.

As far as mating went, I didn't know what would really happen with the two of them. It was hard to judge what the Universe had laid out for any of us. What I did know is that no matter what, the two of them would be close friends, as they both shared many of the same attributes, even though Clay couldn't see it. Most of the time, I found people failed to see the very best in themselves, though they could in others around them.

At last, we reached the village and crossed to the main hut. I knew this was where Chief would want to hold the meeting, and possibly pull anyone else in from the village that he thought might be able to assist us with our mission.
